MikroTik
Common MikroTik Hotspot Problems and Their Solutions
Use this guide as a practical framework, then adapt each step to your network, customers and operating policies.
01
Voucher accepted but the customer never gets online
This is almost always a HotSpot login method mismatch (CHAP vs PAP) or an incomplete redirect from the router's login page — check that the login-by profile setting allows the method your portal actually uses, and that chap-id/chap-challenge are forwarded exactly as the router sent them.
02
The router shows online but customers report it's slow
Check /interface monitor-traffic on the WAN link during peak hours — if it's near capacity, no amount of router tuning will fix it, you need more upstream bandwidth. If the WAN is fine, look for one device consuming disproportionate bandwidth via queue statistics.
03
Router disappears from remote management randomly
This is usually a WAN link that drops briefly (check the upstream provider) or a WireGuard/VPN tunnel that hasn't re-established after a reboot. Confirm the tunnel interface is set to auto-connect and that the router's clock (NTP) is correct — a wrong clock breaks certificate/tunnel validation.
