Time Vouchers vs Data Vouchers: Which One Should You Sell?
Use this guide as a practical framework, then adapt each step to your network, customers and operating policies.
01
Time vouchers are simpler to sell and support
A time voucher (e.g. 3 hours, 1 day) is easy for customers to understand and easy for you to price — it also avoids support calls about "where did my MB go" from users who don't understand data consumption.
02
Data vouchers protect your bandwidth
A data voucher caps total usage regardless of how long a customer stays connected — this is the better choice on a shared/limited upstream link where one heavy downloader (video, updates) can slow the network for everyone else.
03
Most successful hotspots sell both
Offer time vouchers for casual, short-session customers (a traveller, someone waiting) and data vouchers for regular customers who want predictable cost and usage — let the customer choose based on how they actually use the internet.
